Project Outputs

Software applications

The eCircus project contained the development of 2 large software projects: the anti-bullying application FearNot! and the educational role playing game ORIENT. Both these applications are available to download for free from this website and for both the source code is available on SourceForge.

Questionaires

In order to evaluate FearNot! and Orient we have designed a number of questionaires that could be reusable in different contexts. Please get in touch with the listed contact person for more information:

Bullying questionnaire: for establishing the bulling status for every child in a given school class.

Contact: Dieter Wolke (University of Warwick)

The Coping Strategy Knowledge instrument (CSK): measures the sophistication of children’s knowledge about how to cope with bullying.

Contact: Dieter Wolke (University of Warwick), Sarah Woods (University of Hertfordshire)

The Character Evaluation Questionnaire (CEQ): assesses the child’s attitudes to the characters and the emotions felt towards them, as well as the overall level of enjoyment of FearNot!

Contact: Lynne Hall (University of Sunderland), Ana Paiva (INESC-ID)

The Empathy Questionnaire: was not in the end used in the evaluation due to the need to reduce the assessment load on the children, but assesses the levels of cognitive and affective empathy.

Contact: Sibylle Enz (University of Bamberg)

Software Libraries

During the development of the above software applications, we have created the following reusable software libaries that have a big potential for being reused in different contexts.

FAtiMA: The AI program that simulates the decision making process of an agent. Both FearNot and Orient agents use FAtiMA, but slightly different versions of it: The Orient version of FAtiMA adds goal management through a motivational system based on the PSI theory and support for cultures of agents to the FearNot! version. The FAtiMA versions are included on the respective Sourceforge sites for FearNot! and ORIENT.

ION-Framework: The multi agent and messaging framework that both FearNot! and ORIENT are buit upon. For now you can obtain a copy by using the ION.Core project from either the FearNot! or ORIENT source code but ION will also get it's own project website soon.
