Information Systems teaching and research at Heriot Watt is based in the Department of Computer Science, within the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (MACS). This reflects its perspective, which sees a continuum existing from Software Engineering, through Sociotechnical aspects of systems to a business and organisational systems concern, which is often what is referred to elsewhere as Information Systems. We have even referred to this as Technosocial Systems, to stress our concern that Information Systems can lose sight of the significance of technical understanding.
