The Department of Actuarial Mathematics and
Statistics is part of the
School of Mathematical and
Computer Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, and of the Maxwell Institute for Mathematical
Sciences. We are a world-leading centre of teaching and research in actuarial mathematics, financial mathematics,
probability and statistics, and were the first in the UK to offer a specialised
course in actuarial science. In addition, all our actuarial courses are accredited
by the UK actuarial profession: something only a small number of institutions
have achieved.
The results from the
most recent National Student Survey reveal that in terms of the ‘Overall Student
Satisfaction’ rating,
no other university that offers a specialist actuarial course has a higher score
than Heriot-Watt's Actuarial Science. This is the second year running we've
enjoyed a high level of satisfaction in the Mathematics and Statistics category.
