CUBIST Project
CUBIST is an EU project (FP7-ICT-2009-5) that brings together business intelligence and semantic technologies. Working on this venture are teams from SAP AG, Ontotext, Space Application Services, Sheffield-Hallam University, Centrale Rechereche S.A. and BISEL.
BISEL, in conjunction with the MRC's Human Genetics Unit (HGU), is working on a bioinformatics use case for CUBIST. BISEL will enable the other partners to access to the vast quantity of spatial gene expression data in the Edinburgh Mouse Atlas of Gene Expression (EMAGE) database. Subsequently, BISEL will collaborate with those partners in a number of ways.
Ontotext produces the BigOWLIM semantic repository. Working with Ontotext, BISEL aims to produce an appropriate triplet representation of EMAGE's spatial gene expression data. This will lead to a semantic version of the EMAGE data.
Biologists will wish to query this `semantic EMAGE' in a number of new ways. In collaboration with BISEL, Sheffield-Hallam and Centrale Rechereche S.A. wish to help biologists interpret the results of these new queries. Their aim is to develop and evaluate a range of methods for visualising the results. Initially, this work will be based on Formal Concept Analysis and the presentation of lattices.
CUBIST started in October 2010 and runs for three years. More details can be found in the project's factsheet or on the project's main page: www.cubist-project.eu
