Poster: Aligning Biomedical Ontologies.
Abstract
Due to the recent explosion of the amount of on-line accessible biomedical data and tools, finding and retrieving relevant information is not an easy task. The vision of a Semantic Web for the life sciences alleviates this problem. A key technology for the Semantic Web are ontologies. In recent years many biomedical ontologies have been developed and many of these ontologies contain overlapping information. To be able to use multiple ontologies, they have to be aligned. In this poster we describe a framework for aligning ontologies. Many of the current ontology alignment systems can be seen as instantiations of this framework. Further, we show our ontology alignment system, SAMBO, that was developed based on the framework. We implemented different alignment strategies in SAMBO. Further, to be able to evaluate and compare alignment strategies in a convenient way, we developed an evaluation framework and implemented the KitAMO tool.
