Computing staff at Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels absorbed into the Department.

October 2000

BSc in Information Technology started.
MEng in Software Engineering started.

8 March 2001

Joint BCS/IEE Accreditation visit (led by BCS), CS submission led by Mr Dave Marwick and Dr Nick Taylor.
Included first BCS accreditations for UG Information Technology programme and integrated masters MEng in Software Engineering.

October 2001

BSc in Information Technology started at the Scottish Borders Campus.

December 2001

RAE 2001 (research quality assessment) result -
4A
4 means we were scored at 4 on a 6 point scale (top point was 5*)
A means proportion of staff returned was in the top category
Submission led by Prof Howard Williams.

1 August 2002

Formation of the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, and the separation from Electrical Engineering.

February 2005

BCS Accreditation visit, submission led by Dr Nick Taylor.
Included first CSci accreditations for all submitted programmes.

September 2005

MSc in Information Technology launched on new Dubai Campus.

May 2006

IEE Accreditation visit, CS submission led by Dr Nick Taylor.
Sought only to renew IEE accreditation for joint programmes with EPS and some CS PG programmes.
December 2007
Founding Editor of this history, Dave Marwick, retires.
September 2008
University academic year moved from three terms to two semesters.
BSc Information Systems replaces BSc Information Technology.

December 2008

RAE 2008 (research quality assessment) result -
4th in Scotland for Computer Science based on quality of outputs
Submission led by Prof Rob Pooley and Prof Dave Corne.
