How much does it cost to come on this course?

Fees

The fees for the course in 2006-2007 are £8,400 for the Diploma plus a further £2,400 for the MSc additional study.

This fee includes all tuition plus individual, personal, copies of some of the principal books and tables required for the duration of the course. These books can be retained after the course. .

Living Expenses

Living expenses are harder to judge but the following are guidelines for a 12-month stay, and have been provided by the University's Student Welfare Service. Cost on a self-catering basis in a single room in the University residences with private shower-room and including food and local travel expenses: about £5,600 - £5,700 for 9 months, or about £7,500 for 12 months.

Comparison with London

It costs significantly more to stay in London. An idea of how much more can be gauged by considering the level of maintenance grant paid to British research students. In London this is about £2,000 more than it is for students attending universities outside London.

Further comparisons can be gained by looking at the British Council's web site. They have a detailed section on study in the UK and on the cost of living.

In other words it costs perhaps £2,000 - £2,500 more to live in London for a year as a full-time student.
