The results of the first SCOR UK Actuarial Prize for papers written by MSc students in the areas of actuarial science/risk management were announced in 2003. Two prizes (worth a total of £6500) were available and both were awarded to students who were on our course in 2001-2002 and who graduated with the Heriot-Watt MSc in Actuarial Science *with distinction* in autumn 2002.

The winners received their prizes at a splendid reception in London on Wednesday 2 July, which was also a celebration of the company's 30 years' presence in the UK. See photos below!

First prize: Jennifer Griffith

Congratulations to both students!

The competition is for papers dealing with the evaluation and management of risk and submitted by students enrolled in UK universities preparing for MScs in Actuarial Science or Risk Management. The assessments are based on the practical application and innovative character of the paper, the relevance of the models and methods utilized, and the quality and thoroughness of the paper.
