Troubleshooting, Hints and Tips

When typing in a construct rather than using the instantiate options you may encounter a parse error even though the syntax looks correct, adding or removing spaces can sometimes remedy this.

The inclusion paragraph "Parent Section: "Z2 Toolkit"" must be included at the very beginning of each document as some of the symbols you will need are declared there.

The numeric keypad does not work regardless of whether the Num Lock is on or not. Numbers have to be entered using the top row of the main keypad.

To get rid of an extra unwanted part in a construct such as [<word><stroke>] or <stroke>, highlight it and press enter. This only works when the entire part is highlighted.

For Robust schema constructs all schema names to the right of the ¡ must be previously declared schemas.

All identifier, schema and variable names are case sensitive.

Until you know the keyboard shortcuts you may find it useful to have the symbol palette open at the top of your screen, then when you need a special symbol you just double click on it in the palette and it will appear at the current cursor position. To get back to the cursor position just click anywhere in the editor window.

Once you have your basic construct e.g. <predicate> you can just type in the details if you are not sure how to break it down using the tree structure. You cannot begin typing from <paragraph> a basic construct must be selected first.

Rather than going through the instantiate menu, it is quicker to use the production pane at the top of the editor window. You just click on the construct you need. If it is further down the list it may not be displayed, to scroll along the list move the pointer into the window hold down the mouse button and drag it along, releasing when you reach the option you want.

When using word to print out a document if you wish to save it you must save it as file type "Word 6.0/95" otherwise you will loose at least half of the document.

The easiest way to move around the editor is using the mouse and clicking on the part you wish to edit. The cursor keys don't work as for a normal text editor, except in a text box, but rather move you around the tree structure which can take some getting used to.
