Parallel Processing - the Wrong Answer ?

Speaker: Phil Broughton

Time: Wednesday 22nd November 2000, at 14.15

Place: Room 2.33

Abstract:

Commercially, parallel processing has shown none of its market promise. The talk considers ICL's experience in the development and delivery of parallel products and uses this to illustrate the reasons for this. A short review of the wider market place then leads to a look into the future. The talk considers factors which may accelerate and hold back real commercial viability and concludes that it may be some time before the technology is widely adopted (if ever). Inevitably a few open questions are left for discuss.
