Abstract:

This talk will run through the main features of the emerging standard for object oriented design of software - the Unified Modelling Language or UML. This has merged many features from opposing notations and been adopted by the Object management Group as an industry standard. In this presentation ideas on three problem areas will be presented:

  1. How can the requirements of perfromance analysis be met within the UML framework;
  2. WHat can UML tell us about behavioural properties of the system being designed;
  3. Can UML contribute to the integrated view of software and hardware design claimed for Systems Level Integration.
