The Chinese abacus

Welcome to the Web Site of the Chinese abacus. The visitor can find here historical information
about the abacus and its use. Also, a demonstration of how to place a number on the abacus, as
well as how to do the basic arithmetic operations using the abacus is available. In addition, a Java
simulation of the abacus can help you to get experienced in using it.

This site was designed and developed by Sotirios Argyris, M.Sc. student at the department of
Computer & Electrical Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, 1998, under the supervision of the
Lecturer Dr. G.J. Michaelson, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of the M.Sc.
in Human Computer Interaction ( H.C.I.).
