Sandy Louchart (Bsc, Msc, Phd)


I have dedicated this web space to tell you a bit about myself, my research and my passions in life. I am a researcher at Heriot-Watt University located in Edinburgh Scotland. I work for the School of Mathematics and Computer Science and my research is oriented towards Interactive narrative, Serious Games, Synthetic actors, Virtual agents (characters), Digital writing (drama) and Emotion modelling.

I teach Computer Games Design and Programming, 3D modelling (Blender) and Interaction Design. I have a passion for Games in general (computer, board or otherwise), Blender, Arts (painting, comics) and American sports and all forms of motorsports.

Prizes, Grants and Awards:

2013: Applied successfully for funding (Co-I) for the Scottish Enterprise vouchers to develop a tourism facebook Serious Game for Infinite Scotland 

2012: Applied successfully for funding (Co-I) for Heriot-Watt Creativity, Design and Innovation funding for developing an AI Smart costume with the school of textile at HWU.

2012: Applied successfully for funding for Heriot-Watt funding for the development of a research-based game - Quantum gaming

2011: Applied successfully to attend the 1st Heriot-Watt Crucible for young researcher at Heriot-Watt University

2011: Applied successfully to EU (Co-I) for the funding of the GALA Network of Excellence (NoE) project (

2010: Applied successfully to EPSRC (Co-I) for the funding of the RIDERS project (

2009: Applied successfully to attend the 1st Scottish Crucible program for young researcher (Scottish Crucible)

2008: Awarded Heriot-Watt University’s Teaching and Learning award for innovative in teaching. Co-jointly with Judy Robertson.

2008: Awarded an International Travel Grant from the Royal Academy of Engineering to travel to the AAAI symposium on Intelligent Narrative Technologies at Stanford University (USA)
