Course leader(s):

Aims

To encourage students to apply learning gained through their academic studies at the University to the workplace.

To enable students to gain work experience which will increase their employability and professional career readiness.

Syllabus

1. Placement task planning and approval (1.1 Before the work placement begins, the Placement Provider must detail the anticipated tasks and duties of the student. These tasks and duties must align with the learning outcomes for the placement to be approved by the School. The School will also verify the health and safety arrangements with the employer.)

2. Daily work monitoring and supervision (2.1 While on placement, the student is allocated a Work-Based Supervisor, typically their line manager, who monitors the student's daily work. This supervision ensures that the student is consistently engaged in tasks that allow for the achievement of the learning outcomes.)

3. Progress reporting and reflection (3.1 The student must submit regular progress reports, detailing how they have demonstrated one or two of the learning outcomes in the previous four weeks. These reports enable the Visiting Tutor to monitor the student's progress and ensure that they meet the required learning outcomes throughout the placement.)

4. Site visit and feedback (4.1 The Visiting Tutor conducts a site visit during the placement period to ensure that the student has been given and will continue to receive opportunities to reach all required learning outcomes. During this visit, the Tutor checks the student's assignment progress, offers help and guidance, and agrees on a revised training plan if necessary.)

5. Assignment development and evaluation (5.1 The student works on an assignment topic agreed upon by the Visiting Tutor and Work-Based Supervisor, in conjunction with the student. This assignment should allow the student to demonstrate their learning over the placement period. The Tutor ensures the topic's relevance and provides ongoing support and guidance.)
