Aims

To gain experience in the writing of a technical industrially-based report.

Syllabus

1. Industrial placement, involving technical report writing and presentation (1.1 This course is an industry placement and the student will be line-managed by an industry contact. There are no taught components in this course., 1.2 NOTE: This course is assessed by continuous assessment, and courses F21IA, F21IB, F21IC and F21ID are synoptic courses with this assessment/course.)

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students should be able to do the following:

manage the time and effort involved in planning of an industrially based project
communicate effectively with professional peers and managers on technical and non-technical issues related to the project
present technical and project materials clearly in writing, including selecting appropriate document structures and visual aids
critically review and consolidate knowledge, skills and practices encountered in the project
deliver a final report bringing together all aspects of the industrial placement in a concise manner
