Aims

The course aims to give students the opportunity to develop the ability to:

1.       Review and critically analyse interaction design concepts in interactive systems.

2.       Identify and  present solutions to design challenges in the subject area

3.      Develop awareness of the ethical and legal responsibilities within the discipline

4.      Propose effective designs to user interfaces with respect to user requirements and user experience.

5.      Design feasible and practical solutions based on user interface design patterns.

6.      Evaluate the effectiveness of user interfaces

7.      Recognize own strengths and weaknesses, and what is possible within time constraints

8.      Develop experience and skills in giving and receiving constructive criticism

Syllabus

1. Introduction to design principles (1.1 Start thinking critically about design of everyday things, 1.2 Learn and understand established design principles)

2. Usability and User Experience (2.1 Usability factors, 2.2 User Experience, 2.3 Users and User requirements)

3. Creating and evaluating prototypes (3.1 Methods of creating prototypes, 3.2 Methods of evaluating prototypes and interactive systems)

4. Task analysis and evaluation of interaction (4.1 Create task analysis diagrams, 4.2 Evaluate tasks and interactions with systems)
