Aims

To give students an introduction to designing, conducting, and analysing experiments that involve human participants, along with other basic methods of studying human interaction with computational artifacts.

Syllabus

1. Design and conduct a user experiment (1.1 Design and conduct an experiment to evaluate the usability or user experience of a computational artefact or interface.)

2. Ethics of conducting experiments (2.1 Follow university and employer requirements for ethical approval.)

3. Hypothesis testing. (3.1 Devise testable hypotheses about the usability and user experience of a computational artefact and test hypotheses by experiment and analysis.)

4. Usability testing (4.1 Conduct usability experiments.)

5. Basic descriptive and inferential statistics. (5.1 Perform basic statistical analysis on usability data and present the outcomes.)

6. Qualitative analysis (6.1 Perform qualaitave analysis on usability data and present the outcomes.)
