Aims

To carry out a sustained and intensive piece of independent work on topics in actuarial science and to write a substantial report or reports that communicates the results of this work to others interested in actuarial mathematics and practice.

Syllabus

1. Students carry out projects on a variety of topics in Actuarial Science. (1.1 The project or projects take the student beyond the courses they have already been taught and examined on in the MSc and involve working independently with light supervision.)

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students should be able to do the following:

Synthesise learning from throughout the programme to address an extended actuarial problem
Use research skills to identify suitable published data, techniques or analysis from beyond their existing knowledge to address an extended actuarial problem
Work independently to investigate an actuarial problem
Communicate actuarial analysis and results appropriately for a given audience
Draw balanced conclusions from their analysis of an actuarial problem
