Summary

In Poland two singles were released from the Colin Bass album An Outcast Of The Islands, one of which is under review right now.

The music

The single opens with the accessible As Far As I Can See (hardly surprising). Quite a long track for a single. This is not prog, but singer songwriter music. The next one is a left over from the album recordings. The band played this song live as well and I can understand why it did not end up on the disc. The music is plain zompy bluesrock. Not bad, not not fitting for the album. Saling Home is an Sabah Habas Mustapha composition from the Jalan Kopo album. The music is very moody and features some gamelan like sounds and some veyr nice flute playing (is that the Kecapi?). Quite a nice track, very melodic. Then we get an acoustic version of Sailing Home played live by Colin solo. This version is quite a bit shorter. The last track is also a live track, called Bandung. Possibly also a Sabah track since it does not appear on the outcast album. Melodic singer songwriter music and like Sailing Home rather moody.

Conclusion

Not very prog this CD single, but Sailing Home is a nice track making me curious for the rest of the Sabah Habas Mustapha album.
