Next step is to add 8 (783)
in the column of tens. But there are already 7 beads and the rests are not enough (see fig 1). So, we add in the column of hundreds one bead and subtract 2 beads in the column of tens ( 10-2 = 8). Now the hundreds have 10 beads which is equal with one bead in the column of thousands. So, the number the abacus represents now is 1055 (fig 2). |
