Organise a seminar
If you have questions about organising a seminar, please contact the seminar coordinator, Rob Stewart.
Here are some high-level instructions:
- Decide when you would like to hold the seminar. Check the departmental calendar to make sure the seminar doesn't conflict with another event.
- Collect the necessary information about the talk from your speaker, including title, abstract, a short bio, and a URL for the speaker's website.
- Book a room for the seminar. We normally use EM G.44 or EM G.45 but we've also used EM 3.06, EM 3.07, or CM S.01, depending on availability. These rooms can be booked through the online room booking system. The Robotarium Seminar Room can be booked by emailing Anne Murphy.
- Announce the talk to the department. I usually distribute seminar announcements to the mailing lists: macs-cs-academic@macs.hw.ac.uk, macs-cs-phd@macs.hw.ac.uk, macs-cs-ras@macs.hw.ac.uk, m.pereyra@hw.ac.uk (Marcelo Pereyra forwards on releveant CS seminars to AMS). Depending on the content of the talk, you might want to distribute it more widely. I usually send out announcements at least a week before the talk, the day before the talk, and then on the day of the talk. Include in your email details about the date/time/room, title, abstract, bio, URL to the speaker's website, and the name of the speaker's host.
- You should remember to inform the seminar coordinator, who will update the website (normally in August).
