  Begin always from the right to multiply.

The second step is to multiply 4x6=24
( 4 x 316 ). Place number 4 ( 24 ) in
the column it is left free which is the units
column of the product. Cancel the units
number of the multiplicand which is 6
( 316 ) and in its place put the number
2 ( 24 ) (fig 1).
