Accomodation

Welcome to ESSLLI 2005 at Heriot-Watt University!HWU
          Halls

ESSLLI 2005 at Heriot Watt University is located just off the A720 city bypass, approximately 6 miles from the city centre and 3 miles from the airport, with free onsite parking. Residences are within five minutes walking distance of the summer school.

The summer school and all residences are in easy reach of the centre of Edinburgh via public transport (30-45 minutes by bus depending on rush hours up to 9:30 am in the morning and between 4 and 6 pm in the evening). Buses between the school and the city centre are very frequent. The price of a cheap day return ticket for the bus is 2 UK pounds on the condition that the travel is only after 9:30 am; one way taxi costs around 10 UK pounds.

Accomodation can be booked by all ESSLLI participants (both students and scholars) and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. We highly recommend that you book accommodation as soon as possible due to the festivals that are taking place in Edinburgh over August.

Reception - checking-in&out

At James-Watt centre the reception (letter A on the campus map, see the page Reaching the school) is open 24 hours a day. The reception will direct you to your room (which will be around 3 minutes walk from the reception) and will give you a campus map directing you to the school site where the lectures take place. Check-in is made after 2pm. Check-out has to be done by 10am.

Standard Ensuite Bedrooms

Rooms have ensuite facilities (private shower and toilet), tea + coffee making facilities. Rooms are assembled in residences where each residence has its own lounge area with colour TV, laundry and public telephone. It includes breakfast everyday. Please note that this is non-smoking accommodation. There is no internet access available.

Room 1 Room 2

The cost of an ensuite room (private shower and toilet) per night including breakfast is: £27 (£30 after 15 May subject to availability) for full time students (evidence of studenstship is required) and £38 for non students (subject to availability). This is cheap during the festival month and it is hard to match this price elsewhere during August.

Hotels, Campings and Youth Hostels

There are other possibilities for accomodation in Edinburgh. But this should be arranged independently. The ESSLLI organization will not handle accomodation other than the accomodation described above.
