Summer School Reasoning Web 2008

The series of summer schools was initiated by the REWERSE Network of Excellence with the intention to create an annual European educational event in the field of the Semantic Web to be continued also after the REWERSE end (February 2008). At its fourth edition, the Reasoning Web summer school presents the state of art in research areas that constitute the current and the promising Reasoning on the Web application fields. In 2008, besides laying out the basic foundational material, the school will present a range of successful applications, helping students to find interesting topics for further research. Lecturers, who are leading researchers in such diverse fields as Bioinformatics, Web Services, Multimedia, and Natural Language Processing, will point out which Semantic Web ideas and techniques have actually been adopted so far, which weren't (and why), and which application needs are still waiting to be tackled with semantic techniques.

The Summer School addresses graduate students in Computer Science, and researchers in academia and industry interested in Semantic Web topics.

Summer School Reasoning Web 2007

The objective of the Summer School Reasoning Web 2007 is to provide a coherent introduction into Semantic Web methods and issues with a particular focus on reasoning. Reasoning Web is primarily intended for young researchers from industry, PhD students, or postdoc researchers investigating the Semantic Web and related issues. ReasoningWeb 2007 is supported by REWERSE will be the third edition in this series.

Semantic Web Topic Hierarchy Version 2 available

Version 2 of the Semantic Web Topic Hierarchy is available on http://ontoworld.org/wiki/Semantic_Web_Topic_Hierarchy . The page describes the taxonomy of Semantic Web topics developed by the European projects Knowledge Web and REWERSE. The topic hierarchy structures the body of knowledge in the field of Semantic Web. The topic hierarchy has already been used for classifying e-learning resources in REASE and for structuring the curriculum of the new European Academy of Semantic Web Education, an international distributed Master of Science course on Semantic Web technologies.

Semantic Web Days 2007

The Semantic Web Days offer a forum for innovative companies and research institutions with the strong desire to accelerate the uptake of Semantic Web technologies. The first Semantic Web Days 2005 took place in Munich, Germany. In 2007 the Semantic Web Days will take place as special tracks within the European Business Rules Conference (18-20 June in Düsseldorf, Germany) and the I-Semantics (5-7 September in Graz, Austria).

Semantic Web Days @ I-Semantics

The focus of the Semantic Web Days @ I-Semantics (5-7 September in Graz, Austria) lies on Reasoning and Deduction Systems on the (social) Semantic Web.

Semantic Web Days @ EBRC

The Semantic Web Days @ EBRC (19-20 June 2007) aim at bringing together the business rules community as well as the Semantic Web community by demonstrating the interfaces and by showing how to lift Semantic Web from theory to a practical level.

Best Paper Awards for REWERSE Members at RR 2007

Two papers by REWERSE members have received the following best paper awards at the International Conference on Web Reasoning and Rule Systems (RR 2007), 7-8 June 2007 in Innsbruck, Austria (http://www.wrrs.info/):

Best Full Paper Award: "Rule-Based Composite Event Queries: The Language XChangeEQ and its Semantics"
by François Bry and Michael Eckert (Munich), REWERSE workpackages I4 and I5.

Best Short Paper Award: "Hybrid reasoning with rules and constraints under well-founded semantics"
by Wlodek Drabent (Warsaw/Linköping), Jakob Henriksson (Dresden), and Jan Maluszynski (Linköping), REWERSE workpackage I3.

New Conference Series "Web Reasoning and Rule Systems (RR 2007)"

The International Conference on Web Reasoning and Rule Systems (RR) aims to be the major forum for discussion and dissemination of new results on all topics concerning Web Reasoning and Rule Systems. RR 2007 brings together three previously separate events: the International Workshop on Principles and Practice of Semantic Web Reasoning (PPSWR) supported by the Network of Excellence REWERSE, the International Conference on Rules and Rule Markup Languages for the Semantic Web (RuleML) supported by the Rule Markup Initiative, and the International Workshop on Reasoning on the Web (RoW).The First International Conference on Web Reasoning and Rule Systems (RR 2007) will take place on 7-8 June 2007 in Innsbruck (Austria).
